About Warren
My name is Warren and I am the creative mind behind Volare Creative. I am also the owner of Volare Photography, a family photography studio in Bentleigh East, Melbourne.
I have been photographing people for over 10 years. My passion is in visual story telling and if I wasn't doing this I would probably be a photojournalist or documentary photographer. After all, our world is full of amazing people with so many interesting stories to tell!
Common Knowledge
I was born in Sri Lanka and came to Melbourne when I was 3 years old. I'm a huge sports fan. Cricket however is a big one, obviously because I'm Sri Lankan. I'm also a massive Hawthorn fan. If the Hawks are playing, you can pretty much guarantee I will be at the “G” cheering them on!
Family
I have three kids Jesse, Aria and Lena who mean the world to me. My kids are my inspiration. I use them as my motivation to stay healthy. As they grow, I watch them try new things, overcome hurdles and make friends so easily. I wonder how as adults we lose these carefree risk taking traits and it inspires me to overcome my own fears (more on that below).
Not So Common Knowledge
Even though I am an introvert, I can put on a very extroverted persona when required. I think a lot of people are like this. It’s nice having an alter ego!
I won a gold medal at the Sydney Olympics. The event was procrastination. No seriously I would have won it if such an event existed. It’s probably my biggest character flaw.
Procrastination maybe related to my other big internal struggle, overcoming fear. So many missed opportunities and all the things I could have done but never did. It all boils down to fear and self-doubt in some shape or form. However, I am working on this. I am an avid consumer of self-help books that help me grow as a person. I think a lot of business owners and entrepreneurs struggle with this. If this strikes a chord with you, I'm more than happy to recommend a few of my favourites.
Dislikes
There are two things I just can’t tolerate: dishonesty and people disrespecting other people. Clear cut…black and white…nothing more to be said!
Fun Facts
Countless nights of listening to Golden Oldies on the radio when I was a kid (thanks Mum & Dad) has made me into some sort of 50’s and 60’s (and 70’s) music aficionado. Yep, I’m “that guy” who starts singing random songs out loud that nobody has ever heard of. My friends tell me I was born in the wrong era…but I just put it down to good taste.
Three things that are currently on my bucket list:
- I want to drive across the Nullarbor but no one is willing to do it with me…maybe it has to do with the prospect having to listen to me singing those Golden Oldies hour after hour.
- I want to be able to live on a tropical island (Bora Bora, Maldives..you get it) for 3 months of every year (Fess up…you want this too!).
- I want to be semi-fluent in Mandarin (most people tell me it’s hard to be fully proficient unless you speak it every day ie. live in China and I can’t live there if I’m living in the Maldives!
